Built around 1870, this house has received numerous cover-ups and lack of attention.

The first floor apartment has begun to open up and feel brighter by removing a few walls and tearing down multiple layers of finishes.

The second and third floors prove to be more challenging as demolition has uncovered a history of neglect. The main design intention is to open up the space and create a better flow of air and light. The bedroom will be on the third floor loft with part of the floor removed to create a double-height space in the living area. The memory of walls are still present. These remaining details provide inspiration for how to not hide this fact, but rather express it through new materials.

A little at a time, each floor and the exterior are beginning to take shape. A cabin in the city.
